Quotable quote's: Theophilus Msimangu: But he has some truth on his side. Rev Stephen Kumalo: "Truth"? But how can he have truth on his side and not God? This is no time to talk of hedges and fields, or the beauties of any country. . . . Cry for the broken tribe, for the law and the custom that is gone. Aye, and cry aloud for the man who is dead, for the woman and children bereaved. Cry, the beloved country, these things are not yet at an end. Reaction:This movie made me proud to be South African but ashamed of what our country did. This was a deeply moving eye-opener kind of a movie, the kind of movie that you watch expecting to be a story but there is so much more to it. The movie is about South Africa and racial injustice in this country. It is about right and wrong and men's strengths and weaknesses. It is about Christian beliefs, but again whittled down to the most elementary concepts. It is not necessary to be religious to appreciate this movie. It touches on almost every level of trouble in South Africa: racism, elitism, residual imperial feelings, how wealth corrupts natives, arbitrary segregation, the loss of family value, social pride and other serious matters . It will forever be stuck in my head even though the story is fairly simply told , the message behind it is much bigger It makes you think outside of the box , open your eyes on a lot of things that you block out. I was a bit hesitant to read the book, but after watching the movie I realize that you can never know the whole story of your countries history without reading the whole story.
